North American cross-border freight increased just 0.3% in October 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported.
This is due to the fact that trade had a value of 138.9 billion dollars compared to 138.5 million dollars year-on-year. Of the total for the tenth month of 2024, 74.6 billion dollars were between Mexico and the United States, 2.5% more than in the previous period.
Of the total cargo, road transport moved the largest share, with $88.4 billion in the value of goods, 0.1% more than in October 2023, while railroads transported $16 billion, 12% less year-on-year.
Meanwhile , ships moved $9.6 billion worth of cargo, 13.6% less, and airlines transported $4.7 billion worth of cargo, 3.3% less year-over-year.
Meanwhile, between Mexico and the United States, road transport ended the month with 55.3 billion dollars and 8.4 billion dollars by rail.
The BTS stated that Laredo, El Paso and Otay Mesa are the main truck border crossings with Mexico , registering 25.3 billion dollars, 7.8 billion dollars and 6 million dollars, respectively.
