The next federal administration, headed by Claudia Sheinbaum, will receive a country with several pending issues in various security, health, water or energy issues , although it will have the Congress of the Union and the Armed Forces as great allies.
“She leaves a country with many pending issues, the big problem for Claudia Sheinbaum is that she is receiving a country with water up to its neck. In terms of insecurity, none of them will be resolved, issues of health, water, energy, education, a very mediocre growth problem of 1.1% that will probably end up below even though the president says that everything is going well, and with Pemex as the red flag of the Mexican economy,” said Gustavo Almaraz Petrie, Executive President of Grupo Estrategia Política .
During his participation in the monthly meeting of the Mexican Association of Intermodal Transport (AMTI) , he said that it will be a reality in which Andrés Manuel López Obrador, current president of the country, was able to “control and navigate, it arrives with very little margin.”
Likewise, he mentioned that there are limits in Sheinbaum’s government, among which are the review of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (TMEC), its relationship with the United States and public finances.
“I don’t see López Obrador making decisions behind her back every day, that’s why I think he is moving forward and setting the agenda for Dr. Sheinbaum and the appearance of Andrés Manuel López Beltrán has to do with the movements of the President who will be very vigilant to ensure that the principles of the Fourth Transformation are not deviated from,” she said.
However, Almaraz Petrie pointed out that the strengths are in the Congress of the Union, with the Armed Forces as its allies, while social policy will be its driving force , as well as macroeconomic and tax-raising policy. Although he considered that the next president will have to adjust certain elements in energy and health policy.
In addition, there are “certain political capabilities” that distinguish Claudia Sheinbaum , who has surpassed various actors such as Marcelo Ebrard, while in the appointment of the cabinet “she has placed more capable people where she considers most important.”
He explained that the next president is clear about what the country needs, however, “the problem will be where she will put her priorities. When she starts talking about passenger trains, I think that is a mistaken view, she is worried about the number of jobs generated by the President’s works, but these have reached their peak and she believes that the way to fill those gaps is with the passenger train.”
He said that it is necessary to present the infrastructure projects that are needed in the country, however, the participation of the private sector will be important because public finances will be limited.
