“Yes, it is confirmed,” said Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday regarding the appointment of Rafael Marín Mollinedo as general director of the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) , as T21 previously reported.
Sheinbaum justified the arrival of the politician and businessman to boost customs collection .
“We have taken some actions and they have allowed us to increase the collection of the first month, but he now has the task of coordinating elements there from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of the Navy, and civilians as well; and working closely with the Digital Agency, with the Digital Transformation Agency,” he said during his morning press conference.
In the few seconds he devoted to a reporter’s question, he assured that he will be in constant meetings with these government offices to increase the country’s tax collection, “and with that, be able to fulfill the commitments we have made and more for the people of Mexico.”
T21 reported this week that Marín Mollinedo left his position as Mexico’s trade representative office at the World Trade Organization (WTO) last December.
Sources close to this process told T21 that with this action the federal government will seek to link customs security with technological innovation , a commitment that President Sheinbaum has considered essential in her mandate.
But it will also try to encourage ease of trade , as a boost for companies that have been the most affected by stricter reviews of goods since the previous administration.
