The recurring headache of businessmen who are dedicated to the movement of goods and merchandise is the well-known “empty return” , which due to various circumstances forces operators to make a route without any merchandise. This increases operating costs, lowers the efficiency of fleets and does not contribute to the country’s logistical development.
Addressing this problem, Cheicargo developed a platform that facilitates the logistics work of companies of all sizes, since empty returns are not exclusive to certain types of companies.
“Between 500 and 700 thousand units are transported daily in Mexico, of which between 30 and 40% return empty. This implies a huge expense in diesel, toll fees, operator fees, CO2 emissions, among others. In cold terms, air is transported in these units, air that costs the transporters,” explained Michelle González, CEO and co-founder of Cheicargo, in an interview with T21.
Although there are various resources, such as WhatsApp and Facebook groups, to obtain freight in various parts of the country, the reality is that no one can guarantee that the generator of this freight is reliable, so this practice can be a risk . But it is also a risk for the freight generator itself, since in this type of groups there is no certainty about the reliability of the carrier.
Given this reality and taking into account that cargo transportation is the backbone of the economy, Cheicargo developed a technological platform and an application with various services for the optimization of logistics and cargo transportation. The first is dedicated to cargo generators, while the app is aimed at transporters and operators.
“The platform works as a marketplace for the carrier and the shipper, the tool unites both through artificial intelligence algorithms. The shipper generates a request for units with specific characteristics to transport a certain type of merchandise, and almost immediately the platform sends various carrier options that cover their needs,” González added.
This solution also optimizes the time required for a quote, going from days to seconds, thanks to the automation of the process. In addition, prompt payment is guaranteed, which does not exceed 48 hours, which contributes to cash flow in transport companies.
Another area in which Cheicargo has revolutionized is the verification of suppliers, both carriers and shippers. “ In less than a minute we verify the reliability within the platform, which contributes to generating more professional, safe, productive and profitable transportation ,” said the CEO and co-founder of the company.
Cheicargo’s plans for the remainder of the year are to diversify its vehicle portfolio, as it currently has dry vans, refrigerated vans and flatbeds. Along with this expansion in units, González has the goal of extending its area of influence to the United States .
