The Lázaro Cárdenas Port Community reported late last week in a statement that cargo being shipped by rail to the Ferrovalle intermodal terminal in Mexico City remains stable and without setbacks .
This confirmation comes after Ferrovalle published a statement on May 5th requesting Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC of Mexico) , the concessionaire of the line that connects both logistics points, to suspend the shipment of goods from the Michoacan port , to avoid further saturation in its terminal due to difficulties “unrelated to the operation” in carrying out customs clearance.
The port community’s statement indicated that a session of the Logistics Subcommittee was held on May 7, where CPKC of Mexico specified that approximately 91% of rail traffic dispatched from Lázaro Cárdenas to Ferrovalle does not enter the controlled area , but rather goes to uncontrolled areas.
“This ensures that cargo will not be affected and will continue to operate normally. This means that the largest volume of cargo shipped from the port of Lázaro Cárdenas to Pantaco (Ferrovalle) will continue to operate without incident,” the statement reads.
There, customs agents were advised to clear merchandise directly from the port of Lázaro Cárdenas to avoid potential impacts on customers and port users.
The Lázaro Cárdenas Port Community is made up of port authorities, such as the Lázaro Cárdenas National Port System Administration (Asipona) , the port customs office, as well as private actors such as port terminals, customs agents, shipping agents, transporters, among others.
In the statement distributed by Ferrovalle, it was stated that a situation has been in place for a month that has resulted in 94% occupancy of the inspected facility’s total capacity, with an average dwell time of 18 days.
A source close to the operation at Ferrovalle, who requested anonymity, told T21 that customs agents have slowed down their operations due to the more exhaustive inspections currently being carried out by Mexico’s National Customs Agency (ANAM) .
The Ferrovalle Intermodal Terminal, also known as the Pantaco Terminal, is an important logistics hub for receiving and shipping goods to Mexico City and its metropolitan area via rail lines that connect with ports on the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico, as well as with the northern border.
