On the eve of the presentation of the 2026 Economic Package , the National Chamber of Cargo Transportation (Canacar) concluded a technical roundtable process that resulted in the development of four proposals for administrative facilities , aimed at responding to the real needs of the sector.
The process, which lasted several months, was led by Miguel Ángel Martínez , president of Canacar , along with the general vice presidents Ramiro Montemayor García , Ernesto Gaytán Palomo , Jorge Alberto Casares López and Jorge Javier Arizona Amador , under the coordination of the Secretary of Economic Analysis, Uriel Joffre Vega, according to Martínez in a publication on social networks.
The proposals are presented as a joint effort by the industry to encourage the federal government to consider mechanisms that promote the renewal of the vehicle fleet and, thereby, address problems associated with the safety , efficiency , and sustainability of motor transport.
In the presentation made by the chamber, five expected impacts are highlighted if these facilities are applied:
-
Reduction in the age of the vehicle fleet. It is estimated that the average vehicle age could be reduced by up to 1.1 years without a renewal program and up to 1.4 years with renewal.
-
Job creation. The projected growth in the industry and the renewal of the fleet would allow for the creation of approximately 70,000 to 130,000 jobs by 2029 , which represents a social benefit in addition to an economic one.
-
Emissions reduction. With a more modern fleet, the expectation is to achieve lower levels of pollutants such as CO₂ , which would contribute to the country’s environmental commitments.
-
Reducing accidents. The addition of technologies such as ABS brakes and other safety devices would have a direct impact on reducing accidents.
-
Sectoral momentum. The indicator shows a 50% drop in new unit sales , reflecting the challenge facing the industry.
These proposals will be presented to the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) , as well as to the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic , with the goal of being considered in the design of next year’s fiscal package.
Martínez emphasized that the organization’s commitment is to maintain an open and constructive dialogue with the authorities, based on the premise that freight transportation is a strategic sector: “it moves the nation, generates employment, and contributes to the country’s economic growth . “
Canacar maintains the expectation that the proposal will be heard in Congress and that, through its inclusion in the 2026 Economic Package , a step will be taken toward strengthening the freight trucking industry , recognized as an indispensable engine of the national economy .
