Braskem Idesa (BI) and Advario inaugurated this week the Puerto México Chemical Terminal (TQPM) in the port of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, a facility designed for the storage of ethane gas.
“It’s an important investment that will contribute to the development of southeastern Mexico and is part of the Interoceanic Corridor,” according to a BI document published on its social media.
It was also indicated that the terminal, built on a 10-hectare site, has two 54,000-ton cryogenic tanks and a capacity to deliver 80,000 barrels of gas per day to Braskem Idesa.
The terminal’s goal, which requires an investment of $450 million , is to boost Mexico’s petrochemical industry by increasing polyethylene production.
Construction of the TQPM began in July 2022 and was completed in May of this year.
The new terminal is connected to the BI petrochemical complex via an ethane pipeline of approximately 10 kilometers.
Founded in 2010, Braskem Idesa is a Mexican company formed by the association of Braskem (Brazil), the largest petrochemical company producing thermoplastics on the continent, and Grupo Idesa , an active player in the Mexican petrochemical industry.
Both developed a petrochemical complex for the production of ethylene and high- and low-density polyethylene in the municipality of Nanchital, Veracruz, Mexico, which produces 1.5 million tons of ethylene and polyethylene per year. The complex began operations in 2016.
Founded in 2022, Advario is a division of Oiltanking , which was founded in 1972 as a subsidiary of Marquard Und Bahls. Advario is a global warehousing and logistics services provider headquartered in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
