Mexico’s prospects with the nearshoring phenomenon are very favorable. Installed since last year as the main trading partner of the United States above Canada and China, this relationship is expected to be further consolidated by the recent investments that have arrived in the country.
With an adequate reading of this situation, Averitt, with a history of more than 50 years and present in the commercial exchange between Mexico and the United States for decades, has made various investments in infrastructure to address this dynamic, such as its facilities in Laredo, Texas, and recently announced the expansion of its crossdock and a new warehouse in San Antonio, Texas.
“We have a presence along the border between Mexico and the United States, particularly in Texas, with positions in Laredo, El Paso, Harlingen and Del Rio. With our San Antonio facility what we do is move the border and offer an alternative with efficiently operational services,” identified Edward Habe, vice president of Sales for Mexico at Averitt.
In Habe’s perspective, these types of actions are aimed at preparing the demand for nearshoring , where according to the manager in two years there will be a greater demand for logistics services due to all the investments that have been installed. post pandemic and that will begin operations towards the end of 2025 or during 2026.
The facilities in San Antonio began operations in 2001 with a crossdock with 38 loading and unloading platforms. With this new expansion carried out, today it reaches 85 thousand square feet of warehouse, and in the crossdock area it will have 80 platforms , in addition to maintenance facilities and adequate spaces for operators with various amenities.
“This new warehouse is aimed at offering the best conditions to our clients and collaborators, in addition to being built with technologies aimed at being more efficient and with a layout that facilitates the operation of loading and unloading,” said Adrián Garza, commercial representative. of Averitt in Mexico.
This new warehouse, Garza highlighted, adds to the more than 800,000 square feet of storage that Averitt has in Texas alone, with locations in Dallas, Houston, Austin, Laredo, El Paso, Harlingen, Del Rio and Tyler.
With 80% progress, it is expected that the new San Antonio facility can begin operations in October, and be prepared for the increase in demand for North American trade between the United States and Mexico.
This warehouse has a strategic location just under 260 kilometers from the border between Mexico and the United States, as well as close to the I-35 highway, which connects from Texas to the border with Canada (Duluth).
Averitt has a relevant presence in LTL ( Less Then Truck Load ) and FTL ( Full Truck Load ) services , where they have experienced an increase in demand for services between Mexico and the United States, which is why the objective of this facility in San Antonio is to expand deconsolidation and crossdock operations in addition to those existing in Laredo and take advantage of the new highway corridor in Nuevo León with the expansion of service lanes in Puerto de Colombia, in Nuevo León, heading to San Antonio without passing through Laredo as an alternative, commented Adrián Garza
“With the presence of nearshoring , we have seen the dynamism in other industries in addition to the automotive and consumer industries, such as aerospace, electronics, medical equipment and machinery, which we seek to serve with this new facility,” added Habe.
