AT&T Mexico and DHL Supply Chain are preparing for the peak sales season, driven by El Buen Fin and the end-of-year holidays, when an increase in demand for cell phones, accessories and SIM cards is expected, making it necessary to maintain the flow of logistics operations in its warehouse located in the State of Mexico in optimal conditions.
With an area of 12,600 square meters , this facility has the capacity to store 1,700 pallets , through four steps that encompass its device storage process until it is prepared to be delivered to the client.
In this regard, Rogelio Pérez Luévano , Director of Logistics and Replenishment at AT&T Mexico, said that this process involves the receipt of merchandise, storage, order preparation and shipping.
To ensure that the cell phones are correctly stocked, they are X-rayed on a conveyor belt and then the device with a SIM card is placed in it to be scanned and repackaged, and finally wrapped and stored.
Their wrapping system is automated and is carried out by a robot with European technology , which was implemented two years ago. With the automation of the wrapping, they have optimized this process, which they carry out in just one minute, which has allowed them to save time.
The warehouse employs 140 people from the logistics firm and 12 to 15 from the telephone company; its inventory is 79% SIM cards , 20% cell phones and 1% other devices.
Regarding the transportation of goods, to meet the demand during this season, cars are the most commonly used means of transport with 61% , followed by motorcycles with 18% , said Victor Manuel Jimenez Gomez , Director of Transportation at AT&T Mexico.
Although air shipments only represent 5% , they are looking to increase this form of distribution, although they also use it when there are road obstacles, such as closures of important roads due to demonstrations. Their fleet includes approximately 80 vehicles and some are hybrids, added Jiménez.
The workforce in this logistics unit is made up of women ( 50.34% ) and men ( 49.66% ), which is part of their equity and inclusion program, in addition to having access for personnel with disabilities.
Regarding its commitment to the environment, this facility has managed to reduce 312 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the transportation process , 15 tons of CO2 through the use of LED lights and light domes, as well as 7.4 tons of CO2 through the use of robots in the palletizing process; these actions are part of its GoGreen program.
With these resources, AT&T Mexico and DHL Supply Chain are preparing to close 2024 to meet the high demand for cell phones, accessories and SIM cards expected for the end of the year.
Since 2015, both companies have collaborated as partners in the logistics process to serve all of AT&T’s commercial channels in the country, operating warehouses in Monterrey, Guadalajara, State of Mexico, Villahermosa and Merida, which use advanced technologies and systems.
According to the telephone company, during the last quarter of 2023, equipment sales amounted to 419 million dollars (mdd) , which represented an increase of 31% compared to the third quarter of the same year.
