APM Terminals Yucatán announced the acquisition of two Gottwald ESP.7 Mobile Port Cranes from Konecranes , configured to operate with external power supply. The order was finalized in the fourth quarter of 2025 and the units will be delivered in September 2026 at Puerto Progreso .
“Our terminal is progressing through a significant long-term investment program, and these two cranes are important milestones along that path. We already operate previous generations of Konecrane Gottwald mobile harbor cranes, so we are familiar with their reliability and performance. Konecranes was the natural choice for our next phase of growth,” said Victor Peter Konen, CEO and COO of APM Terminals Yucatán.
The cranes feature a 10-axle chassis and two 2.0 m x 5.4 m outriggers, adapted to the local infrastructure. They are also equipped with a 150-meter, 13.2 kV cable reel for electrical operation from an external source . The design allows for full operational capability and eliminates exhaust emissions.
Puerto Progreso connects the Yucatán Peninsula with the United States and is the main container terminal in the region. The addition of the cranes is part of a modernization and capacity-building program at the terminal .
Marc Wellenberg, regional sales director at Konecranes Port Solutions, indicated that the cranes combine performance with electric operation, emphasized APM Terminals Yucatán’s confidence in the technology , and reiterated the commitment to support the modernization of Puerto Progreso.
The contract is part of Ecolifting, Konecranes’ roadmap to zero emissions in port operations. Solutions include renewable diesel engines, hybrid and electrified fleets , as well as options such as hydrogen. Each solution is tailored to meet customers’ current and future needs.
APM Terminals operates more than 60 terminals in 34 countries as part of AP Moller-Maersk . It has a workforce of 33,000 employees and handles more than 27,000 vessels annually, registering 23.2 million container movements per year at its hub and gateway terminals worldwide.
