In an effort to strengthen security on Mexico’s roads and combat cargo theft, the National Association of Vehicle Tracking and Protection Companies (ANERPV) and the Federal Motor Transport Directorate (DGAF) signed a collaboration agreement that will allow them to share information and standardize action protocols to provide rapid responses to security issues in the sector.
Luis Villatoro, president of ANERPV, noted that the agreement includes the exchange of statistics, intelligence services, and mapping of critical areas , in addition to technical training for DGAF personnel, headed by Luis Ruiz Hernández.
“We will provide training, evaluation, and certification to the operational staff of the Federal Motor Transport Directorate in emergency response areas, in order to address illicit acts of merchandise theft,” Villatoro emphasized.
As part of the agreement, ANERPV committed to promoting and awarding training scholarships to the staff of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) , focusing on the use of EC0023 standards related to the monitoring of vehicle geolocation systems.
The collaboration also includes actions to recover stolen vehicles and promote best practices in public and road safety.
During the second quarter of 2025 (2Q25), cargo theft in Mexican trucking intensified in the central region and the Bajío region, especially affecting states such as Puebla, the State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Michoacán, and Veracruz, which accounted for 80% of the incidents, according to Overhaul data .
The firm also warned about the increase in metal theft, primarily steel, aluminum, and copper , with the national incidence reaching 4%, a three-percentage-point increase compared to the same period last year.
