Héctor Ibarzábal, advisor to the Mexican Association of Private Industrial Parks (AMPIP) , reported that from October to date they have launched 13 industrial parks out of a program of 100 that they have planned , although he clarified that “in reality there will end up being 116.”
At Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference on Wednesday, Ibarzábal highlighted that the investment for the parks they have “ahead of them will be very close to five billion dollars (mdd) ,” while the amount for those announced today, which are already operating, is 626 million dollars .
“This includes exclusively what we call horizontal development, meaning the land plus the infrastructure, regardless of the vertical investment made in each of the buildings we’re going to construct. This is done gradually as the park is accepted and absorbed,” he explained.
He indicated that the four thousand tenants currently operating in the industrial parks associated with AMPIP “are a source of activity for launching new investments,” adding that 44% of their activity comes from the United States.
The CEO of Fibra Prologis also indicated that Mexico is key to attracting foreign capital due to its geographic location and labor force.
“We also have many clients who are primarily looking for Mexican labor. Mexico’s demographic profile puts us at a competitive advantage compared to many other countries, not only because of our geographic location, but also because of this labor force,” he noted.
In his speech, he explained that the AMPIP seeks to attract all manufacturing investment coming to Mexico, and emphasized that they are aligned with Plan Mexico , which is why greater investments in infrastructure are needed.
“Through the Secretary of Economy , Marcelo Ebrard , we are holding ongoing dialogue tables to understand the electricity requirements, security requirements, water requirements, road requirements, etc. And we have a dialogue that I must describe as like no other we’ve ever had before. It’s extraordinary,” he said.
The executive noted that AMPIP represents 95% of the country’s industrial activity, with 477 parks in 28 states.
