With its sights set on the second half of 2025, and in a context that could become more challenging for the economy, Foton is focusing on reorganizing its priorities.
“At Foton, we are experiencing, as we have for the past three years, a period of constant change,” said Paco Chávez, CEO of the firm in Mexico. This process, he explained, translates into updating its entire product range to comply with Euro 6 regulations and a commitment to technologies such as electrification.
Chávez also revealed that some of the brand’s models already incorporate hydrogen technology, a move that isn’t yet common in the market, but which, he said, could gain relevance in the short term.
As of May 2025, Foton sold 226 vehicles wholesale in the country, according to the Monthly Statistical Report of the Heavy Vehicle Automotive Industry in Mexico , published by the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor Producers (ANPACT) .
Of that total, 82 tractor-trailers showed an increase compared to last year, while the 132 light-duty units reported a decrease. In the passenger segment, the brand registered only 12 buses placed in five months.
In retail, Foton managed to move 488 units in the period January-May 2025, including 141 tractor-trailers and 153 buses , the latter with a significant jump compared to the same period of the previous year.
The same report indicated that in those five months the brand manufactured 345 vehicles in Mexico and placed 12 electric units on the market , eight of which were produced locally.
Beyond its portfolio, Foton’s strategy is based on three fronts: strengthening its distribution network, improving after-sales service, and expanding the volume of spare parts available.
On this last point, the company plans to triple the size of the current warehouse, from 11,000 to 33,000 square meters. Furthermore, the company plans to launch its own finance company, a project expected to be completed in 2026.
Chávez hinted that, for Foton, 2025 is not a year of accelerated expansion, but rather one of internal adjustments that seek to sustain the pace in a constantly changing market.
