The Mexican Railway Association (AMF) considered positive the message from Claudia Sheinbaum , virtual president-elect of Mexico, about the actions she will carry out within her infrastructure plan for the country’s railway industry.
“He mentioned the increase in the volume of freight by rail, in the sector we received that very well, very positive, because it speaks of the fact that there is an understanding of the need for infrastructure, of the use of railway infrastructure, I think this is something positive “said Oscar Del Cueto, president of the organization.
In an event organized by the association, he commented that during the recent meeting that the virtual president-elect had with the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), it was discussed that within the National Infrastructure Plan for the next six-year term, they will seek, among other actions, to double the volume of the cargo transported by rail, as well as the connection with multimodal and intermodal yards.
He mentioned that another commitment is that he will finish the projects of the current administration such as the Dos Bocas refinery and its connection with a railway line and Line K that connects to the Chiapas port.
“It’s interesting, there is a focus in this administration that is going to come also in terms of cargo,” he said.
Although he explained that special emphasis was placed on creating a logistics node around the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA).
While in terms of passenger trains, he indicated that the virtual president will resume the routes announced by Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
“There will be an issue for those of us in the railway sector and we are going to have a lot of work for the coming years,” he said.
Likewise, he considered that there is experience and knowledge in the areas of the first members who will make up the next cabinet , “that can give results in the next administration.”
Regarding whether there is any concern for the sector due to the qualified majority of the Morena party in Congress, he stated that there is an understanding of what the industry requires.
“Having that majority makes them even more responsible for what they can do in modifications to the law, we are going to monitor the two proposals, but some are already considered within the government plan,” he mentioned.
