Airport groups in Mexico closed the first half of this year with a 6.9% increase in cargo movement year-on-year, adding 621,444.4 tons in the period , with Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) being the one with the greatest growth , according to the monthly report of the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) .
Source: AFACThe AIFA went from eight thousand 485.9 tons in the first half of 2023, when it was just beginning in this activity, to 222 thousand 654.9 tons in the first half of 2024 , a growth orchestrated after the departure of dedicated cargo from the International Airport of the Mexico City (AICM) , a situation that caused the capital airport to have gone from 294,603.4 tons to 115,770.2 tons at the end of the first half of the year , a drop of 60.7 percent.
For its part, the Pacific Airport Group (GAP) achieved the second highest growth with 120,361 tons in the January-June 2024 period, 5,435.7 tons more, which meant a growth of 4.7 percent.
Likewise, Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte (OMA) had an increase in cargo handling of 2.9%, going from 64,156.2 tons to 66,042 tons.
The AFAC specified that from January to June domestic cargo rose slightly by 0.5%, ending with 190,151.1 tons, 993.6 tons more year-on-year.
Meanwhile, the boost to air cargo in Mexico was derived from movements in the international market, which went from 391,971.1 to 431,293.2 tons , that is, 10% more.
