The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) authorized increasing the number of operations per hour at Mexico City International Airport (AICM) from 43 to 44 .
Through the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), it was specified that this decision was made after an analysis conducted by the Mexican Air Navigation Services (Seneam) and the airport itself.
“A maximum of 44 landing and takeoff operations can be handled per hour at the AICM, in accordance with the airspace limitations determined by Seneam. This measure will be temporary and will remain in place as long as the indicated conditions prevail,” he stated.
He mentioned that, based on the implementation of actions by the AICM, as well as the application of mechanisms and procedures, they will mitigate some operational risks in order to increase operational safety, service quality, well-being, and passenger satisfaction.
It’s worth remembering that starting in January 2024, the previous federal administration imposed a decree, due to congestion issues, that reduced takeoff and landing operations per hour at the AICM from 52 to 43, effectively ruling out international flights.
This decision was not the first of the administration’s, as in August 2022 it authorized a reduction during the winter season, from 61 to 52 operations per hour during the peak hours of 7:00 a.m. to 10:59 p.m.
In the resolution published this Monday in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), the SICT specified that the AICM terminal buildings remain saturated , for Terminal 1 from 5:00 a.m. to 10:59 p.m. and Terminal 2 from 6:00 a.m. to 10:59 a.m.; from 1:00 p.m. to 7:59 p.m.; and from 9:00 p.m. to 9:59 p.m.
In this regard, he said that the Executive Directorate of Transportation and Aeronautical Control , which is part of the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) , will be responsible for authorizing the schedules so that they can be used by the airlines.
