During 2024, Aeroméxico transported more than 162 thousand tons of merchandise, a record figure for the airline, so for this year it is preparing a series of actions that will allow it to continue with this growth.
Andrés Conesa, CEO of the airline, said that of the total fleet, 22 are Boeing Dreamliner 787s, plus three that will be added next year, which will have greater capacity.
“We are already paying close attention to the 22 aircraft, plus three more that will be added, but also to the 737, especially domestic cargo, where there is still a lot of opportunity to improve occupancy factors, so we have a very important plan for this year,” he said.
Although he did not offer further details, he said that they will seek alliances with the pharmaceutical industry and other new clients. In addition, in the middle of the year they will launch a campaign aimed at the cargo sector, “it is a good complement to passenger revenues.”
“Cargo is growing at levels of between 8% and 12%, but when these three 787s arrive, that is where we are going to grow much more because there is a lot of space and more volume,” he said.
He mentioned that this year they will begin with seven new routes, including Cartagena, Phoenix, Punta Cana, Panama and Cali, while for long-haul destinations they expect the arrival of more Boeing 787s, in addition, they will add new planes to go from 150 to 164.
He indicated that at Mexico City International Airport (AICM) they began work to remodel its premier lounges, and will carry out various works in the check-in area and other spaces in Terminal 2.
He also mentioned that they will invest in technology to improve their application, which will be relaunched this year, in addition to recognition, among others.
Regarding the arrival on the stock market, he said that only until there are market conditions , “we are ready and there are always windows of opportunity and as soon as there is, we will do it.”
“Markets are always complicated, so we have tried to be prepared with the forms. There are two-week windows every three months. We are in no hurry, but it is a chapter that we acquired when we left Chapter 11. When the shareholders decide to sell, because it is basically a secondary offer,” he added.
Aeromexico, the most punctual airline in the world
Regarding the recognition, Jeremy Bowen, CEO of Cirium , commented that this trophy recognizes Aeroméxico as the most punctual global airline in the world in 2024 , according to the On-Time Performance Review conducted by the consulting firm.
He said that during the mentioned period, the Mexican airline registered a performance of 86%, just three points above the second place, and has also registered improvements in the last five years.
“We don’t make the decision based on our own criteria, we have 100% accuracy in the data we use, we process 25 million source updates, they go through our validation processes and these are the final results. We measure the OTP in terms of 15-minute departures on schedule, and when an airline wins it, it has to do with the quality of the airline, that all the parts work correctly,” he explained.
Andrés Conesa explained that one of the factors that can affect operations is the weather, particularly at AICM, however, they managed to carry out the flights on time.
During 2024, he recalled , the airline operated 120 routes, 25 more than in 2023 , and transported 25 million passengers, with an occupancy factor of 86.6 percent. In terms of punctuality, it improved by 11% in arrivals and 8% in departures, compared to 2023 metrics.
It is worth mentioning that in January of this year, Aeroméxico again achieved first place in the ranking of punctuality worldwide, above Iberia or Qatar Airways.
