Avolta , atravel retail company that operates duty-free shops in airports and other facilities, inaugurateda new Global Business Services (GBS) Center in Mexico City , from which it will provide financial and operational support to its different business units in Latin America.
In an interview with T21, Mark Thomassen , Vice President of Global Business Services at Avolta, said the new facility was the result of an evaluation process in which the company analyzed four to five Latin American countries. To make the decision, he added, factors such as the availability and professionalization of talent, costs, and location were considered.
“We did the research in four or five countries in Latin America because we wanted to be close to our businesses in Latin America and in the United States,” explained Thomassen, who assured that, after carrying out the analysis, Mexico City emerged as the best option.
The company stated that the GBS installation aims to leverage Mexico’s shared services ecosystem, connectivity, and the availability of local talent . For the remainder of the year, the operation projects creating more than 60 specialized jobs focused on process standardization, operational efficiency, and digital transformation.
Thomassen highlighted that a significant portion of the staff hired comes from Latin America, which, from his perspective, allows the center to incorporate knowledge of the culture and business characteristics of the region.
The goal will be for this team to provide services to the company’s various operations and absorb functions that allow local units to focus on serving their respective markets, in addition to supporting compliance with Avolta’s internal processes and guidelines.
The company has a presence in nearly 70 countries, has more than 78,000 employees, and serves approximately 2.5 billion passengers annually through its retail , convenience, food, and beverage businesses for travelers.
TecnoParque wins among several alternatives
Once in Mexico City , the selection of the facilities also involved a process. Thomassen noted that they considered between 12 and 15 office options within the capital before choosing TecnoParque . Ultimately, beyond the building’s characteristics, Avolta was primarily interested in an analysis they conducted on the local population and educational profiles, with the aim of attracting new employees to their team.
On the other hand, the offices were developed under a zoning and strategic interior design concept by Taller 1339. The space incorporates 11 meeting and collaboration rooms and six individual acoustic spaces intended for tasks that require greater concentration and remote communication.
The decision is also influenced by the company’s track record in Mexico. In an interview with T21 , company representatives stated that Avolta has been operating in the country for over 30 years , which they consider one of their key markets.
With the launch of the new center, the company seeks to strengthen its support capacity to Latin American units and advance the standardization of processes and services in the region.
