Uvicuo guides the road transport sector towards productivity, efficiency and safety

Given the natural conditions in which freight transport takes place, Uvicuo offers alternatives as a means of payment, generating savings and productivity.

The freight transport sector has an impact on the national economy, representing about 4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and contributing more than 80% of the movement of goods at the national level, while if foreign trade is considered it contributes more than 50 percent.

In contrast to these figures, the trucking industry has its own reality. Based on statistics from the General Directorate of Federal Trucking, as of August 2025, there were 220,718 business units in Mexico, of which 97% have fewer than 30 vehicles.

In addition to fragmentation, there are the intrinsic challenges of the activity, such as insecurity, productivity, operator turnover, and the informal conditions in which it operates and coexists with food establishments, repair shops, spare parts, as well as other factors such as fines or bribes.

In the pursuit of making the trucking industry more productive, and in order to offer alternatives to different business levels, Uvicuo emerges as an ecosystem that, through the use of automation and artificial intelligence, offers solutions for savings, productivity, safety, efficiency and innovation to trucking companies.

Uvicuo’s proposal stems from reality: “More than 70% of senior managers do not trust their administrative data,” stated Iker de Haro, CEO and Co-founder of Uvicuo.

From Iker’s perspective, the solutions for this sector have not taken the time to understand the particular needs of road transport, where, for example , the fragmentation of the sector must be addressed in order to cover fuel, tolls and other emerging expenses.

“What we do is orchestrate all spending needs, achieving greater control by leveraging Artificial Intelligence, thus mitigating risks instead of being reactive,” added de Haro.
The CEO of Uvicuo’s approach is based on the idea that using technology like Machine Learning enables alerts and predictive analytics, reducing operational challenges and translating them into streamlined workflows.

“One of the issues that can be addressed is the verification control that facilitates the settlement of accounts. Today, it has been identified that 30% of operator turnover is due to problems and discrepancies in accounts ; with the Uvicuo solution, the flow of capital and the closing process can be improved, favoring the experience of both parties,” highlighted Iker de Haro.

Today, after one year in the market, Uvicuo maintains monthly growth rates of 20%, both in transaction volume and number of clients. Among the results achieved are an average 5% reduction in fuel consumption, a 68% increase in fraud prevention, a 75% reduction in administrative time per month, and a 95% increase in tax deductibility.
Tangible results.

Beyond the scope that can be achieved with the Uvicuo solution, during the presentation of this platform, José Miguel González de Salceda Meza, director of Operations Express Sinaloa Ensenada Division 8W , stated that the tangible results are in the management of expenses, such as the issue of fuel , where it became the best option over self-consumption schemes, fuel network providers or agreements with service stations.

Iker de Haro and José Miguel González.

“With Uvicuo, you have a card that can be configured by amount, by service station, or it can be used for a single purpose. Furthermore, it allows you to generate instructions and guidance via WhatsApp. The key is to mitigate complexity and lower the barriers to entry for operators using this technology,” explained José Miguel González.

The executive recommended that business owners in the trucking industry embrace artificial intelligence to avoid falling behind in the market and missing out on the efficiency and productivity gains that can be achieved.

Accelerate the route

According to the International Road Transport Union (IRU), digitalization in transport is one of the major challenges worldwide; it is not a situation unique to Mexico.

Under this premise, Uvicuo’s proposal in conjunction with Mastercard as a payment method is an alternative to combine security and efficiency, in addition to having the ability to provide traceability to its operations, “with this proposal there is a tool that manages the operation of companies,” said Mariana Casar, VP Fintech, Digital and Enablers of Mastercard Mexico.

In addition to that capacity, Mastercard has a vision to boost small businesses, and in this it is aligned with Uvicuo to, through solutions such as Mastercard Start Path, seek to generate strategic alliances, business connections and more R&D (research and development).

“We are strategic partners to offer solutions, easy and secure payments, helping more sectors achieve digitalization and banking,” said Mariana Casar.
