LA PAZ, BCS.- The California Maritime Transport Company (TMC) has added the “Santa Marcela II” to its ferry service , which will operate on the route from this port to Mazatlán, Sinaloa. The addition of the new vessel increases its cargo capacity by 45% on the maritime connection it has from here to the continental shelf through the ports of Sinaloa, including Topolobampo.
At the Santa Marcela II flag re-registration ceremony held this weekend, Blanca Guerrero Olloqui, TMC’s general director, said, “This achievement isn’t just a figure, it’s a clear testament to the transformative impact this project will have on our infrastructure and opportunities for the entire region.”
The executive emphasized that each voyage the new ship will make “will be a tangible demonstration of the growth and confidence we continue to place in Mexico’s future. It is a response to the president’s Plan Mexico and to national maritime development.”
The “Santa Marcela II” is a Ro-Ro type vessel (specialized in moving rolling cargo) and is similar in characteristics to the “Santa Rita,” which is already part of the TMC fleet, with the capacity to move 1,830 linear meters (equivalent to 80 full units of the so-called double-articulated trucks).
The company’s strategy of incorporating this 143-meter-long and 23-meter-wide vessel responds to the dynamic economic growth of the state of Baja California Sur, which remains among the top four nationwide due to its main economic activities in tourism, construction, and commerce, Jorge Arturo Ramírez, partner and director of the shipping company, explained to T21.
With the addition of the new vessel, TMC will also be able to provide daily service across the Sea of Cortez , which is strategic for continuing to promote trucking as a logistical ally in its service to the people of South Baja California, he added.
For his part, the state governor, Víctor Castro Cosío, celebrated that TMC, with the “Santa Marcela II,” has added another bridge connecting the state he governs with the continental massif, and said that TMC is a source of pride for Southern California.
TMC offers maritime transport services on the Topolobampo-La Paz-Topolobampo and Mazatlán-La Paz-Mazatlán routes , and has made significant investments in modernizing its fleet over the past 10 years.
