Maersk identified some challenges in the face of tariff chaos, where many companies, even with a global presence, still rely on up to 30 or 40 local customs brokers, located in other ports or countries, resulting in fragmented data , limited visibility, and unnecessarily paid tariffs.
According to the shipping company, between 5% and 6% of rates are overpaid on average due to a lack of centralized data and optimization. Among other data, it noted that 20% of shipping delays are due to poor customs preparation.
In this regard, he indicated that Maersk Trade & Tariff Studio is a global customs platform that combines AI-powered tariff engineering and optimization , ensuring the correct application of more than six thousand product codes and more than 20 thousand subcodes.
It also provides pre-compliance risk screening, helping customers avoid delays , detentions, and penalties, and offers real-time data updates from partners as well as Maersk’s network of 2,700 customs specialists worldwide.
It also allows for the integration of trusted local brokers while ensuring a global vision.
