In April 2025, the transportation, communications, mail and storage sector registered an increase of 54,640 jobs in Mexico, according to the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE) , published this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) .
According to the survey, the sector reported three million 324 thousand 105 jobs last April, while in the same month of 2024 it was three million 269 thousand 465 , which meant an increase of 1.67 percent .
This increase in the logistics sector is in line with the rise that the ENOE registered in Mexico in April 2025, of 61.5 million people in the Economically Active Population (EAP) , which represented an increase of 45 thousand people in relation to the fourth month of 2024, or a participation rate of 59.4 percent .
According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the employed population reached 59.9 million, an annual increase of 88,000. Furthermore, “by sex, female employment was 24.3 million (a decrease of 52,000) and male employment was 35.6 million (an increase of 140,000).”
By sectors, the employed population was distributed with 43.9% of the total in services , 20% in commerce , 16.5% in manufacturing , 10.4% in agricultural activities , and 7.8% in construction in April 2025.
In the reference month, the unemployed population was 1.6 million, a year-on-year decrease of 43,000, and the unemployment rate was 2.5% of the working population.
The number of underemployed people, that is, those who reported the need and availability to work more hours, was 4.3 million, or 7.1% of the employed population.
Meanwhile, informal workers totaled 32.7 million in April, increasing the informality rate to 54.7 percent.
These figures come amid uncertainty over the U.S. tariff policy, which has spread globally and is affecting various productive sectors in Mexico and, consequently, the employment rate.
It’s worth remembering that the Mexican Institute of Finance Executives (IMEF) estimated 200,000 jobs by 2025.
The Bank of Mexico (Banxico) also indicated in its Quarterly Report that it expects between 110,000 and 290,000 formal jobs to be created in Mexico this year. By 2026, it forecasts the creation of between 270,000 and 470,000 jobs.
