The 2024-2030 Semiconductor Master Plan is moving toward the objectives set and, to date, 16 of the 30 goals proposed last October have been achieved, according to a follow-up meeting for this project, which was headed by Marcelo Ebrard , head of the Ministry of Economy (SE) .
The importance of the Semiconductor Cooperation Forum was emphasized at the event , whose continued existence will be key to coordinating strategies between the public and private sectors. Measures to optimize import permits, tax refunds, and strengthening the supply chain were also discussed.
Plan Mexico , which was presented last January by President Claudia Sheinbaum , already reflects the positive impacts of the initiative, demonstrating the country’s commitment to integrating innovative solutions, according to a statement from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The federal agency emphasized that the U.S. Embassy expressed its interest in resuming the project’s momentum, with the goal of meeting the stated objectives. It also reaffirmed Mexico’s continued interest in promoting investment in the industry and creating favorable conditions for its development.
Topics such as talent and technical training were discussed during the meeting. The need to share efforts to structure the sector’s growth was also highlighted.
“It was proposed to establish a specific chapter for semiconductors within the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) with the aim of attracting investment from large production centers,” the Ministry of Economy stated.
Companies such as Cisco , Foxconn , and Skyworks , among others, have demonstrated their commitment to this initiative by participating in the development of strategies aimed at strengthening local supply and the high-value semiconductor chain.
At the meeting, Ebrard underscored the importance of this industry by officially awarding the Made in Mexico seal to Circuify Semiconductors , a company dedicated to the design of semiconductors up to three gauges, founded by highly specialized Mexican engineers.
The 2024-2030 Semiconductor Master Plan consists of a set of public policies, cooperation measures, investments, and developments aimed at doubling investment, consumption, and domestic content in the industry and seeking to place Mexico among the elite of “sophisticated economies.”
The project contemplates Mexico’s participation in the chain in the areas of design, assembly, packaging, testing, and downstream integration.
