New year, increased tax collection capacity. Before the end of 2024, the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) updated the IEPS (Special Tax on Production and Services) Law , which aims to collect 713,844 million pesos this year.
With this modification to the IEPS, cigarettes, soft drinks and fuels experienced an increase starting in the first minute of 2025.
In the case of fuels, the SHCP announced that the increase in IEPS on regular or magna gasoline will reach 6.45 pesos per liter, that is, an increase of 28 cents compared to 2024.
In the case of premium or higher octane gasoline, the IEPS increased by 28 cents for 2025, bringing it to 5.45 pesos per liter.
Meanwhile, diesel experienced an increase of 30 cents , reaching 7.09 pesos per liter as of this year.
Based on the prices published on the National Gasolinero platform of the Petrointelligence agency , the average price on January 2 of regular and premium gasoline, as well as diesel, is as follows:
- Magna: $24,057
- Premium: $25,393
- Diesel: $25,759
When compared with the prices published on this same platform on December 31, 2024, there is a marginal difference of just $0.19, $0.014 and $0.028, respectively.
El Nacional Gasolinero reports the highest prices in the three fuel categories that were found in the following states:
- Regular gasoline $29.69 per liter in Morelia, Mich.
- Premium gasoline $28.50 per liter in Benito Juárez, CDMX.
- Diesel $29.89 per liter in Santiago Ixcuintla, Nay.
Meanwhile, the lowest prices were found at the following points:
- Regular gasoline $17.58 per liter in Juarez, Chih.
- Premium gasoline $19.70 per liter in Mazatlán, Sin.
- Diesel $19.55 per liter in Mazatlán, Sin.
