The passenger train projects of the current federal administration will begin to operate in complete sections , as was carried out with the El Insurgente train, Mexico-Toluca.
Jesús Esteva, head of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) , said that service will not be provided by stations, but by operational sections.
“Beyond the inaugurations, complete sections will be put into operation, that is, if Mexico-Querétaro is completed, we will not have to wait until Nuevo Laredo. So the sections that were announced would be worked on and completed by 2027,” he said.
In a meeting with the media, he said that once the reinvestment studies are available, it will be known how these projects will be carried out and how they interact with the cargo.
However, he assured that all studies are being analyzed, including the one carried out by Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) of Mexico for the Mexico-Querétaro route.
“They (the Railway Transport Regulatory Agency ) are evaluating all the studies that exist and based on that and what exists in reality, they are making plans for where the trains will go and are discussing with all the concessionaires,” he said.
When asked what challenges could prevent the trains from starting operations, the official stressed that rather than delaying, what is important is the planning stage, that the terms of reference, the physical characteristics and the track, of the trains are well defined. And that, to the extent that it is done correctly, ensures that the previous schedule can be met and based on previous experience.
In this regard, he commented that trains such as the Mexico-Toluca, which has been under construction for 10 years, “teach us what we have to take care of and the problems we face and which we have already learned about.”
Jesús Esteva explained that the study period will continue and construction will begin in the middle of next year.
