Arely Velasco Muñoz, mas Operations Engineering Coordinator , was the winner of the third edition of the Tony Gutiérrez Award , thus setting a precedent for future generations of women in aviation.
Throughout her career, Velasco Muñoz has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication, establishing herself as a role model for future generations of women in aviation, the National Chamber of Air Transport (Canaero) said in a press release.
“The strongest contribution I have been able to make to the industry has been through more. I have a group of seven engineers working hand in hand with me. We have done many things and, literally, we are going for more,” he said.
Diana Olivares, president of Canaero, highlighted the importance of promoting the participation of women in the industry and recognized the valuable contribution of those who have paved the way in the world of aviation.
“Today we celebrate the progress we have made in terms of equality and we recognize the road we still have to travel. The talent, dedication and leadership of each of the women who have been part of this industry are proof that aviation has no borders for those who wish to contribute, grow and transform,” she emphasized.
The Tony Gutiérrez de Canaero Award , named in honor of the first woman to lead an airline in Mexico, has become a symbol of inspiration and recognition of the tireless work of professionals in the sector.
It also reaffirms the institution’s commitment to recognising and promoting the talent of women, highlighting the crucial role they play in all areas of the airline industry .
During the event, Tania Carro, Undersecretary of Transport, mentioned that “although we have made progress in this sector, it is still limited; we have a lot of work ahead of us and now it is in our hands, it is time for women.”
Canaero has stated that it remains firmly committed to gender equality , promoting initiatives and actions that strengthen the participation of women in the industry, in addition to fostering a more inclusive environment and highlighting the valuable impact of women professionals on the growth and development of the airline sector.
