In the framework of the upcoming El Buen Fin , Mercado Libre México has launched ambitious investments in its logistics infrastructure.
Omar Ramírez, its Senior Director of Operations, highlighted the importance of these efforts to shorten delivery times and improve the shopping experience, a key element in today’s market.
In this regard, Ramírez commented that Mercado Libre is working on expanding its operational capacity with the opening of a fulfillment center in Hidalgo, a complex with a surface area of 100 thousand square meters (m²), capable of processing up to 400 thousand shipments per day.
The executive also explained that the idea is to continue expanding operations, with the Tultepec distribution center being the sixth in the State of Mexico and joining 10 others that are strategically located in different states of the country .
“We are delivering to more than 25 cities on the same day and 55% of our deliveries are made in less than 24 hours,” Ramírez stressed.
The opening of the fulfillment center will generate more than seven thousand direct jobs and three thousand indirect jobs , which translates into an economic and social impact in the region.
In addition, Ramírez reiterated that to optimize delivery nationwide, within the framework of El Buen Fin , Mercado Libre relies on a fleet of more than 900 electric vehicles and a network of four dedicated aircraft that perform night flights.
This system allows them to reach users in hard-to-reach locations, including the north and southeast of the country, within 24 hours.
“We have an air hub in Querétaro, where we consolidate cargo and distribute it throughout the country,” Ramírez explained.
He also highlighted the importance of using artificial intelligence in its distribution centres to manage product rotation. This technology allows high-demand items to be strategically located, optimising processing times and reducing environmental impact by maximising vehicle use.
“We are managing to be more responsible in the use of resources and improve the efficiency of the logistics system in general,” Ramírez added.
