The Railway Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF) reported that railway robbery skyrocketed in July of this year, as it registered an increase of 119% compared to the same period in 2023.
According to the July 2024 Security Pulse document, during the seventh month of this year there were 382 reports of robberies , compared to 174 reports last year .
The agency pointed out that of the total registered in July of this year, only 55 resulted in reports of theft. The main incidents were related to product/cargo, fuel, rolling stock, signal components and track.
He said that the states of Guanajuato, Coahuila and Jalisco recorded the highest number of robberies, with 83, 72 and 43, respectively.
“It is important to highlight the low number of reports submitted in the states located in the southern region of the country,” according to the regulatory body.
The ARTF stated that the subgroups of goods with the highest number of reports of theft incidents during the reference month were:
- Other industrial products (19.60% of theft incidents)
- Grains, seeds and their derivatives (17.62% of theft incidents)
- Auto parts (16.96% of theft incidents)
These three subgroups together represent 54.19% of the total theft incidence reports.
He said that the products with the highest incidence of theft were unspecified accessories and unspecified controls, as well as corn, followed by wheat and tires.
