With the aim of caring for the environment, Contecon Manzanillo made an agreement to preserve the Cuyutlán Lagoon , one of the most important coastal wetlands in Mexico.
Through this action, resources were invested in the studies necessary to declare the area as a protected natural area.
During the signing event, Angélica Jiménez, director of the Institute for the Environment and Sustainable Development (IMADES) , delivered a preliminary justifying study and the monitoring of flora and fauna carried out in collaboration with the Tortugario Cuyutlán to the representative of Contecon, Francisco Santana.
“We have joined forces, capacities and resources with the state government to carry out activities focused on research, conservation, protection, restoration and management of the biodiversity and ecosystems of the region, with the aim of achieving the declaration of a natural area. protected,” said Francisco Santana, manager of Industrial Environmental Physical Security and CSR at Contecon Manzanillo.
Laguna de Cuyutlán is one of the largest coastal wetlands in Mexico and a vital center for salt mines and artisanal fishing. In addition, it is a habitat of great avian diversity, housing endangered species. For six to nine months a year, migratory birds such as geese, ducks and white pelicans visit the lagoon, underscoring its ecological importance.
In that sense, María Cruz Rivera Rodríguez, director of the Cuyutlán Ecological Center “El Tortugario”, expressed her satisfaction with the existence of companies that care about the population and the protection of the environment.
Cruz Rivera Rodríguez noted that these efforts contribute to economic development and environmental protection, ensuring the conservation of this important ecosystem for future generations.
