The National Association of Private Transportation (ANTP) is working on the creation of its emissions calculator for multimodal transportation , a trend that is most evident in the transportation and logistics sector in Mexico.
“We made a collaborative agreement with GIZ, a German agency, in which we developed a study on how to calculate the reduction in emissions from combined transportation and this calculation is being done on a scientific basis and all the sciences behind it,” said Francisco Kim, president of the organization’s Railway and Multimodal Committee.
He explained that this new tool will record the slopes, weights, return load, weather conditions and other considerations of the United Nations framework agreement for measuring emissions.
“We are trying to do something very precise, attached to science so that our users, when they are making a change in mode of transportation, know what impact reduction they are having when making said combination,” he indicated.
Other business organizations, such as the Mexican Multimodal Transport Association (AMTI) , already offer their members and the market emissions calculators in freight transport, precisely to demonstrate the reduction offered by multimodalism .
Likewise, he mentioned that other actions they carry out in terms of security are the armoring of vans, which also includes a protection mesh and GPS.
Francisco Kim recalled that this type of work prevented a robbery in Monterrey, where the criminals could not open the unit due to its closing mechanism.
Regarding the challenges, he said that the ANTP seeks the homologation of transportation systems with the United States, better implementation with logistics operators, infrastructure growth, alignment of last mile requirements, the modernization of the legal framework of multimodal transportation.
