Gruma will join the Tehuantepec Isthmus Railway (FIT) through its Maseca brand , reported the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) through a statement where it reported the signing of a commercial agreement .
“The signing of this agreement ensures the transportation of corn grains through recently acquired bulk hoppers, strengthening the FIT’s railway infrastructure,” he said.
The agency assured that this improvement in logistics will provide economical transportation, with capacity and improves production costs and consequently the economy of consumers.
With this, he stated that the FIT is positioned as the backbone of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT) and generates confidence in the business sector, in addition to promoting the development of the states of Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas and Tabasco.
It is worth remembering that during the current administration the modernization of Line Z of the FIT has been carried out, and since September 2023, cargo transportation between the ports of Coatzacoalcos and Salina Cruz was restarted.
According to the Railway Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF) , during the period from January to April, this railway has transported 12.91 million tons.
In its report for the first quarter of this year, the main corn company reported that its net profit increased 46% compared to the same period last year, obtaining profits of 111 million dollars.
In addition, it obtained an operating flow of 264.4 million dollars, 26% higher according to the aforementioned comparison periods; As for sales, it registered an increase of 4%, which translated into 1,647 million dollars.
“Gruma has started the year with a solid foundation in the markets it serves and safeguarding profitability. Our products continue to benefit from healthy customer demand. Versatility and adaptability to the changing environment helped keep volumes stable despite consumer weakness, while sales increased 4% thanks to a more profitable sales mix. “We will continue to optimize our strategy throughout the year in response to changes in the market environment,” the company said at the time.
He reported that with Gimsa, sales volume decreased 2% to 524 thousand tons compared to what was obtained in 2023, although sales remained stable at 491 million dollars year-on-year.
“Gimsa continues with a stable trend despite a solid comparison base and, more importantly, the division continues to optimize profitability,” he said.
