Within the framework of the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Mexico , the Italian Navy training ship , Amerigo Vespucci, will arrive in Puerto Vallarta on June 18 . This visit highlights the importance of bilateral relations between both nations.
The ship’s arrival event will be attended by Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena and other Mexican authorities, highlighting the relevance of this celebration for both nations.
The ties between both countries are not only based on diplomacy , but also extend to the economic and cultural spheres. In 2023, trade between both countries reached a record value of 8.6 billion dollars , with Mexico being the first market for Italian exports in Latin America. In that sense, Italy has established itself as the second largest supplier to Mexico among the countries of the European Union.
The ambassador of Italy in Mexico, Alessandro Modiano, highlighted the strong presence of Italian companies in Mexico, with more than 2,300 companies operating in various sectors such as automotive , agri-food, infrastructure, tourism, pharmaceuticals, circular economy and energy efficiency, strengthening a robust and constantly growing bilateral relationship.
Likewise, he highlighted that the Italian community in Mexico has grown considerably , doubling in the last decade. From 2013 to 2023, the number of Italian citizens in Mexico increased from 13,000 to 26,000, reflecting the country’s attractiveness as a destination for work and life opportunities.
In addition, Modiano highlighted the lasting friendship and growing cooperation between Italy and Mexico since the establishment of their diplomatic relations in 1874.
“The arrival of the Amerigo Vespucci symbolizes the excellent ties of friendship that we have cultivated over these 150 years,” declared Modiano.
The public is invited to see this historic ship from June 20 to 22 , at the Puerto Vallarta cruise ship dock.
